Snow in April?

We woke up this morning to a white wonderland. What?!? It is the END of April, and it is snowing. My tulips had just started to open yesterday, and now they are suffering in the cold. Poor tulips. Well, I guess we can be glad it is not really hot yet, huh? And, the snow melts quickly, so it is not really that bad! But it was a bit shocking!

On April 21, Ciera was a part of the Cache Children's Choir "Choirfest" performance. The group consisted of 400 4th and 5th graders from all over Cache Valley. They have been practicing since February. This year, their performance was made up of songs from all over the world. They sang songs from Australia, Germany, Africa, Japan, and many more. Their concluding number was a song written by a man from Cache Valley about the beautiful mountain valley that we are blessed to live in. It was very nice. Pictures WERE allowed, however, I forgot to bring our camera (of course), so I got a picture of Ciera after we got home. (They had been at practice from 5:00 until after the performance... so this picture was taken at almost 9:00, hence the messy hair and tired look...) We are so proud of Ciera!

Baby Animal Days

The girls and I went to Baby Animal Days at the American West Heritage Center on Friday with our friends. The weather was beautiful, and it was fun to see all of the newborn animals that they had there. We have gone before, but I think they add new stuff every year, and this year, there was so much to see and do.When we got there, we wandered around the stalls with all of the baby animals. We saw calves, lambs, bunnies, ponies, piglets, and kids (the goat babies and LOTS of human kids!), and we got to pet a lot of them. The girls did really well, and weren't afraid to pet the animals. After we looked at all the baby animals, we went and stood in line for the pony rides. The line was actually pretty quick, and the girls all got to get on a pony. Ciera, Chloe, and Brooke actually rode theirs. Autumn was okay until I stepped back to take her picture, then it was all over. She started to cry, and wanted to get down. She ended up not riding it after all.
This year, they had an added attraction... baby bears. They were on loan from Bear World in Idaho just for this event. They were adorable. They were 3 months old, and all fluffy. I think the girls would have LOVED to hold them! After that, we looked at all the other things going on there... they had fun and games. There were "old time" games to play. Ciera and Chloe liked the one where they stood on tree stumps and tried to pull each other over using a rope like tug-of-war. After we played a while, we went and stood in the lines to hold chicks and ducklings. Brooke and Autumn didn't want to hold any, but they did pet the ones that Ciera and Chloe were holding. They were really cute! Before we headed home, we toured the old farmstead. It is a farm house from 1917 that has been preserved for people to see what things were like then. They have the main house, a summer kitchen, a granary, a root cellar, a smokehouse, chicken coop, wood shed, farm shop, barns, and of course, an outhouse. There were volunteers who told us about the time period, and about how people lived in 1917. It was really cool. ( I think I enjoyed it more than the girls did!) All in all, we had a really enjoyable day! (And I got my first sunburn of the year...)

A Great Weekend!

This weekend was a really great weekend! On Saturday, we went to Suzanna's house and spent the day with her family and Grandma and Grandpa Tanner. Little Ellie was blessed in their home Saturday afternoon, and we had a fun time there playing with cousins and listening to General Conference!
Sunday was Easter, and also General Conference. We got to listen to messages about the Savior, and about strengthening our families and teaching our children. Of course, the Easter Bunny came and brought fun stuff for the girls too. Grandma and Grandpa Tanner got up to our house about lunchtime, so we got to spend the remainder of the day with them. We had a really great Easter.Monday was Chloe's 8th birthday. It was also her baptism. We had Grandma and Grandpa here, and Aunt Chris, Mark, Aunt Sherry, Grandpa Arden, and Suzanna's family (minus Jeff who couldn't get out of work for the day) came up to spend the day with Chloe. It was a really special experience. We are so proud of Chloe and the choice she made to get baptized. (I was so busy trying to make sure everything was just right that I forgot to use my camera all weekend... boo!)

Happy Birthday to Chloe

Chloe had a birthday party on Friday, April 2nd. Her actual birthday fell on spring break, so she wanted to have her party with friends before they all went on vacation. She had 7 girls come, so with her sisters, it was a big party! She wanted a strawberry cake with whipped cream frosting and strawberries (which was great for me!), and she wanted to watch the new movie "The Princess and the Frog". I think her party turned out well! Also that day, I took Chloe to get her ears pierced. She was a little nervous going there, but she did really well, and didn't cry or make any noise when it was done. She is getting so big!

Cake Balls (a.k.a. Mud Balls)

A friend of mine introduced me to this recipe a couple weeks ago, and now it is one of my favorites. It is super easy to make and SO delicious. Here's what you need:

1 box cake mix (any flavor) and ingredients you need to make cake
1 container ready-made frosting (any flavor)
melted chocolate for dipping

To make these yummy desserts you first need to make the cake according to the instructions on the box. (I made Devil's food cake.) After it bakes, remove from oven and let it cool slightly... and then crumble it all up. (Eat a little bit, if you want to!) After the cake crumbs have mostly cooled, add 1/2 to 2/3 of the container of frosting and mix together. (I used milk chocolate frosting.)
Form little balls out of the cake/frosting mixture and place in the fridge while you melt the chocolate for dipping. (I used left over dipping chocolate from our Christmas chocolates, but melted chocolate chips work too.) Melted white chocolate works really well too, and tastes delicious! (Notice there are no white ones in the picture... I ate them all!)
You can put sprinkles, or whatever you want on the top to make them look cute... but you definitely don't have to!
After the chocolate hardens, enjoy!!
