Sweet Treats

For Valentine's Day, I made my family chocolate mousse in chocolate dessert cups. They turned out FANTASTIC! I felt like such a professional as I was making them... it was so fun! They looked cute and tasted even better. I think I will make this a Valentine's Day tradition!

Go Green!

Ciera and Chloe have been motivated to clean up the earth this week. They were walking home from school and saw an "oil spill" on the street. (I am sure it was a small spot of oil... I haven't heard any news of an oil spill in the area...) They promptly got out the markers, crayons and paper, and made 15 signs that they want to post all over the neighborhood and their school telling people the importance of going green. I thought I would share a couple of my favorites.

iLove

At Young Women's last night, we made a Valentine's craft that I found on the internet a couple of weeks ago. It is a fake iPod made from a box of conversation heart candy. I thought they were so cute... and the girls liked making them too. They are super easy. I was able to print the cutouts for the front with songs pre-printed on them, or you can choose your own song titles to print on the front. They have Hershey's Kisses for the ear buds. Skookies for Zanny

This is a Skookie...
It is the most amazing dessert. It is a step up from brownies and ice cream... you can make a cookie or brownie base, you bake it in the small cast-iron pan, then top with your choice of delicious toppings, and eat. Then you feel sick, because they are huge, a million calories, and SO GOOD. We didn't know about Skookies until we moved to Logan, and now we are hooked. Unfortunately, they are not part of any diet plan... too bad.

My Camera Won't Work...

My camera has been on the fritz since two weekends ago when we went to Hardware Ranch. Bummer, because we have had several blogging opportunities since then, but I couldn't get my silly camera to work. I don't know what is wrong with it. Sometimes technology really frustrates me!
As I was blog surfing this afternoon, I heard my little girls in the bathroom whispering to each other. As my mind was occupied with reading blogs, I moved a little too slow and failed to get in there before anything happened.
I said, from in my room, "Girls what are you doing?"
Their response was, "Nothing." (Of course.)
Then Brooke said, "Autumn got into your makeup." After which I heard her running downstairs to the other bathroom. I went into the bathroom, and Autumn was up on my counter with my makeup bag. Brooke came up a minute later (and it was obvious that she, too, had gotten into the makeup and tried to wash it off.) They had blush, bronzer, lipstick and mascara on. All over their faces. It was perfectly hilarious. Too bad my camera is busted!!!
I found this picture on the internet... this is about what my girls looked like when I caught them. I wish I could have taken a picture of them for you all to see... but as I have mentioned MY CAMERA IS BROKEN! Oh well... perhaps a miracle will occur, and my camera will fix itself for use in many more blogging moments... one can hope.

Ahhh, a 3-Day Weekend!

This weekend was a fun, long weekend. Friday night, the girls had a slumber party with each other in the living room. They got to sleep in their sleeping bags and watch a movie. We have tried this before, but they were all too scared to stay out of their rooms. It must be that they are getting big, because they stayed in their sleeping bags all night and asked when they could do it again!
Saturday, we hung around home, played together, and did nothing! (Which is kind of nice once in a while!) Sunday we went to church and then had the entire day to spend together. After dinner we had family home evening together, ate Skookies (the best dessert EVER) and watched a movie together as a family. It was great!Today, we slept in a little. I cut Chloe's hair because it had finally gotten long enough to match her bangs (we have been growing them out for forever!), so now she has a cute bobbed haircut.
After lunch we went up into the mountains a little way to Hardware Ranch. It is a huge ranch where Rocky Mountain Elk come to spend their winter. The ranch feeds them and allows people in horse drawn wagons to go out to see them up close.

It was pretty awesome. They had about 400 elk, and said as soon as we get more snow that number would jump to about 700 for the rest of winter. There were about 4 big males, and we were talking about their antlers, and how they lose them and then grow them back each year. Autumn thought the animals were called antlers and kept telling me "Look, there are more antlers!" It took me a minute to figure out that she was talking about the elk. The girls all loved it and we had a great time together.

Not again...

Maybe I deserve it. I have been cutting my own hair since junior high school, so why wouldn't my children want to cut their own? As you know, we had a big hair cutting incident last year with Brooke and Autumn, but they were little. Bigger girls should know better, right? Well, we are not even half a month into 2010, and we have had our first unapproved hair cut of the year. Scared? You should be.
Ciera was standing by the counter, and the light was hitting her head just so. What I saw made me mad, sad, confused, upset... She had cut a chunk of hair front and center. A large chunk. She said that she had been dared. DARED. I couldn't believe it. I half wanted to leave it alone and let her live with the consequences of her choice. But, being the compassionate mom that I am, I fixed it the best I could. So now, Ciera has joined in the "girls with bangs". Don't look closely, for underneath the stylish bangs lurks a disaster. Luckily, I have cute girls.
